Magazine Article: Project Plan

 Hello,

in today's post I would like to discuss a little bit my project plan in steps, creating a timescale in order to get the most of my time and write a well-organized and interesting magazine article.

Project Title: An article for a women's magazine on Fast Fashion Consumption in the 21st century.

Progression Route: Media & Communication

Project aims & objectives description with SMART acronym

Specific - To create an article 1000 words for a women's magazine on Fast Fashion Consumption in the 21st century.
Measurable - An article will consist of a minimum of 1000 words.
Achievable - I am confident that I am able to finish my project with a use of my writing skills and motivation to develop my research abilities within the process. I will create a plan and a timescale to ensure that I have an organised schedule to complete this work.
Relevant - My project is relevant to my progression route, which is Media & Communication and it meets the demands of media project assessment.
Timely - I am going to work on my project step by step, including doing research on the topic. This will be completed by the end of project deadline 17/03/21 and presented on my website.

Why have you chosen to do this project?

I have chosen this project to present to the audience the topic of Fast Fashion, issues and solutions to it. I am very interested in media communication and fashion personally so I believe I can share some knowledge with a magazine article to the audience, develop my writing skills and digital platforms use.

Who are you researching for this project? Please list at least three media producers, authors, musicians, photographers etc.

A British-American journalist and editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine Anna Wintour
A French fashion editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld
A British editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Glenda Bailey

What techniques/skills are you developing/learning for this project?

I will explore techniques of creating a layout for an article and writing skills, such as using headlines to organise thoughts in text.

What do you expect the final outcome of the project to be?

I expect to finish my work withe the final outcome of an interesting article of minimum 1000 words on topic of fast fashion and solutions to this global problem posten on my website in portfolio website.

What have you completed so far for this project?

So far I have developed my idea, consider the content of an article, research the readership I am writing for and the various forms to publish my work. Additionally I have created a timescale to know how to work further on my project.

What do you think will be the issues/drawbacks to the project?

The main issue for me to the project will be lack of time and my laziness in completing my work in steps.
Another issue will be the fact that I usually procrastinate, as I am perfectionist and I find every task incredibly difficult when it has to be done perfectly to be self-satisfied with it.
I struggle to do a research part. I don’t know, which source is appropriate for academic writing and how to find them.

What is your timescale considering that this has to be completed by Week 10?

Week 3. - Project Sign off!

Week 4. To begin writing.

Week 5. make a further research and continue writing

Week 6. continue writing, do some research, do a tutorial with a tutor to discuss if something has to be done urgently.

Week 7. Continuing writing look for copyright images and make and article layout.

Week 8.  Continue writing and sending draft to the tutor. Look at website design and update, start to consider how to upload an article (Flipbook). Complete all pieces ready for portfolio.

Week 9. Text proofreading, finalise the work, write an introduction on the portfolio and complete ready for the deadline.

What resources or materials will you need for this project?

I will be using Microsoft Word to write text, Lucidpress to make a layout for an article and Flipbook to present the work on website. For an article I will be using copyright free images and e.g. ecological organisations raports/articles/researches.

Draw a picture/Write a sentence/sketch a story/write a dialogue that captures the essence of your project.

Alex (Crumbie, 2019, para.2) ' in his article indicates that 'According to the Fixing Fashion report, a scathing cross-party analysis published by the UK Parliament in 2019 (...), the fast fashion business model is “encouraging over-consumption and generating excessive waste.' By this quote we can conjecture that 'fast consumption' has a huge impact on social aspects of life, people's wallets and most important - the planet Earth. It is nothing else but business, huge companies benefit from cheaply made synthetic fabric fibers, which mostly end up in the see polluting oceans and being eaten by aquatic animals.

The speed of clothes production and its distribution plays a crucial role in creating large textile waste in a highly developed countries. Most of these countries are seeking overseas for retailers delivering fast fashion, while UK's companies stopped on exporting and expanded garments production locally mainly in Leicester for big brands, for instance BooHoo, Missguided and ASOS.

'Fast Fashion' is produced quickly and what is even more concerning purchased massively with little consideration as items prices are lower than ever before. Consumers rarely consider buying products, which can stay with them forever. This attitude develops 'throw-away' culture both for companies and consumers, especially if the quality is low clothing degrades after just several wears or trends created by influencers and social media change.
