The importance of a research

Hello, in today's post iw ould like to focus on answering some research focused questions.

  • Why is research important?
Conducting a research helps every students to gain some background knowledge on chosen topic and gather useful information, what is vital in understanding a specific subject. This helps to avoid making mistakes, such as 'being sure' about facts when we have no statistics or facts at all. This also is cruciual to  fully comprehend what are we learning at university.
  • Why should we always look at at least three sources of information?
This practice develops critical thinking and our own opinion based on a variety of sources. Three sources are the minimum as each author can present different results on the same thesis. The thesis could be demolished, confirmed or it could be unclear in its results and it can have two options. What is the most important about it, it's to compare at least these three sources to form our own opinion.

  • How do you know if source on  the internet is reliable?
The steps I always take to make sure the source is reliable is to:
 - avoid wikipedia and websites ended with .net .com and better choose organisation's websites ending with .ac or .org and sources from DMU library or google scholar
- check an author background, and ask whether this source is produced for academic purposes
- check if the source has data of being published, author details and title, these are characteristics of a quality source of information

  • What should you always reference your sources?
It is important to always ackniwledge your sources to link your work with original text your work is based on. This shows your critical thinking, referencing skills and gives an examinator straightforward message that you know how to use someone's other work to produce your own and not plagirise.

Thank you for your attention.
