Initial Research

Hello, in today's post I would like to share with you an initial research I have carried out for my project assesment - two charity advertisements. This research will discuss some of the most popular health campaigns created by World Health Organization (WHO) and National Health Service (NHS).

Research: World Health Organization

WHO since the 7th of April 1948 have been 'building a better, healthier future for people all over the world' (WHO, 2021, About WHO, para.1). The organisation consists of 194 member countries and with about 7000 people working in 150 states. The main role of WHO is to direct, coordinate and support international health within the United country members. The organisation promote health widely across the globe and ensure better health care and access to quality essential services. According to WHO (2021) website the organisation so far has eradicated Smallpox a contagious disease by immunization, helped decrease Malaria deaths by 60%  between 2000 and 2015 and launched campaigns on health lifestyle to prevent people to catch some of the noncommunicable dieseases, such as cancer and diabetes.

1.  #TobaccoExposed Campaign

The World No Tobacco Campaign was launched globally in 2020 to raise awarness how youths and children are exploted illegally, explode myths and expose manipulation tactics used by employers in nicotine, tobacco, tobacco related industries.

This advert aims to protect children from working in factories and being manipulated for someone's own benefit. In the picture we can see a quite accurate explanation of the topic. There is a young child smoking, he breathes out highly dangerous clouds of smoke. What is obvious is that this child is too young to use drugs. This shows that the issue that is presented mainly influence people at young age. The slogan says ' The tobacco industry is targeting a new generation' what directly shows the problem and the main point of a campaign - to stop this from happening.

World Health Organisation uses in their campaings and printed posters its logo, for instance placed in the left top corner. There is also a mission statement 'speak out' to engage people to use their voice lik power and a hashtag #TobaccoExposed to share the advert in wider social media.

This advert is visually appealing, has a great and clear message contained, what I believe makes it a part of a highly successful WHO health campaign.

2. World Patient Safety Day

World Patient Safty Day is marek each year on 17 September was established in May 2019. The aim of the campaign is to focus on patient safety as a global health priority and to improve the service to deliever the greatest possible help. The WHO role is also to enhance awarness and engagement in a global context across continents.

The presented poster goal is to show the patients who were given right primary or outpatient health and those who weren't. This is presented in a straightforward way with some numbers, which symbolises people. Four grey coloured sitting patients are thos who were neglected by public health system and colorful patients represent happy people who were diagnosed or taken care of in time.

This advert uses statistics to point out how serious problem is and to visualise it. This is a great idea to present the issue and convince people with some reliable data information to follow WHO guidelines, such as to 'sepak up for patient safety'.

Additionally, in the bottom right corner there are two logos, one represents WHO organisation and second the campaigns name and World Patient Safety Day.

This advert is clear to understand and has some attention-grabbing colours. Although, what I would consider to change about is the lack of hashtag, which were displayed in the first advert. This hashtag idea was a creative way to promote and share easily the campaign, but here it is constricted.

Research: National Health Service

National Health Service is a public health system in the United Kingdom, which aims to improve help, care outcomes and people's experiences of health service, lep reduce pressure on health frontline and make the health public system more efficient (NHS, 2020).

1. Cutting Down My Risks

This NHS campaign poster has much more details than WHO's adverts, especially more text, so it is  detail focused. This image aims to present an issue of extra weight and probably also obesity in extreme condition. In the photo there is an elderly plump woman standing with a bowl of a healthy meal with vegetables what shows that according to the title she is 'cutting down my (her) risk' what means she switched to a lighter diet. A text on the right explains that excess weight lead to serious diseas so, in some cases losing weight can stop people from getting sick.

Underneath the text there is a link to NHS webiste to search for support. In a  right top corner there is NHS logos and in teh bottom left are two logos 'Better Health' and "Let's Do This', which are they support programms.

This advert is visually alluring with that green colour mainly associated with happines and nature. I my point of a view in this advert that colour was used to represent the nature as a key to success and as a lighter diet for instance more plant-based with less fat, salt and sugar.

2.  First Mental Health NHS campaign

This advert is different from previous at it has no character's photo, it is rather simplistic than detailed and complicated. This aims to explore the topic of mental health, so it says 'How do you handle life's ups and downs' what directly address each person, each viewer who reads it. This was made to reach each individual rather than masses. It clearly points out that everyone who views that they could be  patients who might need help, which NHS offers to them.

This poster is modern and simplistic what shows that creating an advert should start from a great concept/idea than just a character's photo.

Thank you for your attention.
