Partner's Blog UX Testing
Hello,
In today's post I would like to test out my partner's blog in order to help him develop it and correct some mistakes (if exist). Please have a look at my answers related to user experience on Simon's website
The Homepage
- Is the homepage pleasing to look at? The homepage is pleasent to look at, as I like the photo my partner used on it. However, I cannot see any post, so I assume the website isn't finished yet.
- Does the homepage clearly show both visually and with text what the website is about (i.e represent the students progression route?)? The homepage does say that the author is a Media&Communication student and the photo presents the view of a city what may suggest that he is passionate about street photography.
- Is there a navigation menu on the homepage? Yes, there is.
- Is the navigation menu clear and easy to use? It is easy and clear to use, but I can't find portfolio section in the navigation menu.
- Are there social media links on the homepage? There is no social media links.
- Do all the menu links and social links work correctly? I cannot test it.
- Do you have any comments or suggestions in regard to the homepage? I would suggest my partner to delete 'log in' button as thi is his personal portfolio website and I would suggest to add Portfolio section to the navigation menu.
a nice photography, no portfolio section and irrelevant 'Log In' button
The About & Contact Page
- Is the About
page pleasing to look at? The about page is not pleasing to look at, as it doesn't look relevant to author's progression route. In the displayed photo there are some in the office what rather related to Marketing or Creative industry that Media and Communication.
- Does it
contain an image or design? It does contain a photo (critically discussed above)
- Is the about
me/biography well written? There is no information about the author.
- Does the
about me/biography really tell you about the person and their work? It does not give any information.
- Do you have
any suggestions on the about me page? I would suggest to write an extended information about who is he, what does he study, what are his aspirations and why did he create that website.
- Is the
contact page pleasing to look at? Yes, it is.
- Does it
contain an image or design? It does contain a design with form to send your questions or offers.
- Does the
contact page work - test this and find out. The contact page works.
- Do you have any suggestions about the contact page? I have a suggestion to delete personal email address or change it for university's personal email.
Personal email address
- Do all the
gallery pages work? Yes
- Is there an
introduction to the work on each gallery page? There is no introduction
- Does all the
work have titles? There are titles.
- Are the
gallery pages consistent? They do.
- Do the
gallery pages work well and are they easy to use? they work well and they are easy to use.
- Can you go
back and forth through the gallery pages easily? Yes
- Is the work
displayed to show it at its best? I would not change anything.
- What
suggestions do you have about the gallery pages? I would suggest to change draft images titles.
The Whole Site
- Is the site
consistent throughout? It is
- Did you find
it easy to navigate and use? Overall it is easy to navigate.
- Was it a
good experience going through the site? It was
- What would
you change if you could? I would publish a post as this website looks a little bit empty.
- Would you
recommend this site to others? If not, why not? I would recommend this site to others to look at this as an example of a media&communication student's website.
Simon's website looks consistent, clear to me and it has some nice photos. However there are some things I would suggest him to change, such as: number of posts, the photo titles, a email addess and delete section 'log in'. I like the typography, the font used in the home page look romantic, the layout is clear to me what make sit easy to navigate, the colors are rather dark than vibrant.
