Research into/through/for my project

 Hello,

Today I am going to present to you three types of research that I will go through to establish facts and reach new conclusions in order to expand my knowledge about the topic before the major process of working on my women's magazine.

Research into my project

My project is a women's lifestyle magazine therefore as first I decided to have a look closer at changes in printed text for women within years. I will research into History of women's magazine with some sources that I will provide in a reference list and this video:

I will analyse
  • How the social and cultural factors result in need for magazines transformations
  • How the topics contained in magazines changed

Initially magazines were created by male writers for men audience, as an example -The Gentleman’s Magazine the first periodical. Within years it has changed and magazines were expanded to be aimed at female audience. The first women’s magazine published in 1693 was ''The Lady’s Mercury'', created in, which carter to women and men. That text was essentially a periodical, where women could find answers about love, marriage, behaviour and clothing as many of them wished to find out more about that.

In 1770 ''The Lady's Magazine'' was published by men, though it included female contributors and writers. The audience was encouraged to share in poems and own stories for publication. In the magazine a reader could find society news, fashion, and music. '' The Lady's Magazine '' as it suggests by its name also had a medical column , covering such maternal and female topics as breastfeeding and  menstrual pains.

The 19th century brought to the world such publications as ''The English woman’s Domestic Magazine'', aimed more at the target audience of the middle-class wife and mother, covering topics such as cuisine and fashion with sewing patterns for those who wanted to be up-to-date with trends. Although in the 19th century women’s magazines covered more and more political news.  The English Women’s Journal launched in 1858 discussed topics, such as employment and equality for female readership.

These days, the most iconic oldest example of the magazine for women is ''Cosmopolitan '', also known as ''Cosmo''. It all started  in 1886 as a ''first class family magazine'' transform to a literary magazine in the early 20th and finally to a magazine catering to the modern single career woman in 1965 thanks to an editor H. G. Brown, who addressed ''Cosmo'' to independent women.

Research through my project

I will be researching and testing Lucidpress to used it as a editing tool to finalise my project . Although within the process I would be testing other apps and platforms to find an appropriate one.

I will be taking photos with a camera for a front cover and content inside the magazine. I will be editing those images, perhaps with Adobe Photoshop or Gimp.

During the process I am going to push the limits of my tools and get the most of them to decide which of them would be helpful in further stages of completing my work.

Research for my project

For this research I decided to find out more about magazine structure, its anatomy, terms and definitions. To understand that key concepts I will be using videos published by Adobe Instructor  and designer Martin Perhiniak.

Please watch the part 1 here.

In the next few weeks I will also watch next videos to become acquainted with the topic.

Thank you for your attention :)
