Website: Self-Evaluation

 Hello!

Today I will go through some my website self-evaluation questions that should have been answered to critically comment my own piece of work in the first stages of a project to exclude some errors, correct my mistakes and understand that every work should be improved before final version.

What were your initial ideas for creating a website? style / name / template.

My initial ideas for a creating a website included a clear theme and style that reflects me as a person. I wanted to keep it professional, organized and easy to read for the potential viewers. The title of a website portfolio I added in the top of a page is my name, because I have seen that on the other student's websites what made me think that this trick personalises the website quite well and make it unique among others; as we now that every person is different.

Do you have a tagline on your website?

Yes, I do . The tagline is 'EVERYTHING IS PERSONAL. INCLUDING THIS BLOG'.

Which designers / artists (relevant to your continuation route) did you look for inspiration?

As my inspiration I looked at Tim Doner a young American hyperglot who can speak 23 languages fluently and teaches others how the language is important to understand the way people think and how their culture is connected with it.

How many pages did you want to make on your website and why?  Did that change as you progressed onto the research / designing stage?

On my portfolio website I want to have four pages which are the most necessary to give a general view of me and my piece of work. What's more in that case the number of 4 pages are required from my tutor, so I decided not to change that. These pages would be named : home, portfolio, about me and contact.

What is the purpose of your website?
The purpose of my website is to present my portfolio to the potential type of audience including future employers.

Who are your potential website users?

My potential website users are people interested in distinct types of learning methods, techniques and digital tools that might be useful to enrich their classes. My portfolio will aim at teachers, future tutors and students teaching English language and my major project leader who will grade my piece of work in the last stage.

Why do you think it is important to have a digital portfolio website?

It is important to have a digital portfolio website. It informs potential website users that you are active in a virtual world and flexible to adapt to the new circumstances easily. It represents you and shows your concept and ideas by a wide range of available settings, that you can set up to reflect you absolutely as a person. It is a message sent to the viewers that you are eager to cooperate with others and reply to their questions, if they will have any queries to you.

Which design elements / tools did you use? (e.g.: infographics, fixed header, static background image, navigation menu design, text boxes, image galleries, social media feed) and why?

On my website so far I did use static background image to give some colours to my white template design, text boxes to inform a user about new posts and social media feed to connect my blogger account with a portfolio website.

Which template did you use in Wix and why?

The template I have chosen called 'Personal Blog' is a great representation of features I believe are the most important and it distinguishes itself from the ones I looked at. That particular example is subtle, sleek and it looks professional, the use of a white colour reflects its sophistication. There is no necessary objects or very complicated layout that may make the guest feel overwhelmed by the general design.

How many pages does your website have and why?
My website has four pages  according to the initial requirements for my assessment and its purpose which is only to present my final project.

Does your website have working social media icon links?
My website does not have working social media links, because it needs to be developed and fixed before publishing it on the internet.

Are your pages connected / interlinked?
Yes, my pages are connected e.g. portfolio website is interlinked with my Blogger.

Is it easy to navigate?
I believe it would be easy to navigate my website thanks to use of interlinked social media pages if I publish the website in the near future.

Does the “Contact” page / email link work?
The contact page and email are given in the top and bottom of a website, to make it visible and easily accessible to the future users that will use it, when the website would be shared to them.

Comments

  1. Well done for completing your website evaluation. It would be best to include screenshots of your website design as a visual explanation. I am not sure if the tagline 'everything is personal. Including this blog.' is very effective as you are using the website as a digital portfolio. It also would be good to see more detail on the website research you have done and how this has informed your work.
